In Defense of Food

Check out at the library or purchase and read In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan!

Author Michal Pollan talks in depth to his readers about ways to eat healthier and sums up his healthier eating in six words..."Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants!" He also shares the major living concept of "Don't eat anything your great-grandmother wouldn't recognize as food; that includes most processed , packaged products with more than five ingredients," he told Health magazine in April 2008.

It is important to use healthier food choices in every aspect of your life, remove the "if I could eat healthier," "if I could control my portions," or "if I had more money to spend" out of the equation and take it one step at a time. Taking a whole foods approach to eating out, at a family function or a dinner party, can create those miniture steps to well living. Look at what items you want to put on your plate and if what is included are fresh foods with pure ingredients like vegetables, fruits, herbs and milk products.

"The next time you go out to eat, try to order two appetizers instead of an entree. Appetizers are often the most simply prepared, fresh vegetable -based items on the menu." said Mr. Pollan.
